When a few years ago the Catholic Church abolished in its calendar of saints some Saints, because their real existence was in doubt, the Watchtower Society regretted the poor Catholics, who would be alienated in their faith because they didn't anymore know surely what they still had to believe. Something like this of course can not occur in the religious group of the Jehovah's Witnesses; there is no falsity or error that are to be corrected, but changes are always hailed as new light; the Governing Body takes no blame, because ultimately they had the old light from God, who reveals the truth "little by little".
To make a comment: It is true that God reveals some of his intentions by and by. He has announced the Messiah only as seed of the woman, then as the seed of Abraham, as Shiloh of the tribe of Judah, the son of David, etc. Or did he first say that in Abraham all nations and kindreds of the earth are blessed; he elected the people Israel, but the prophets announced that also people from other nations would one day be able to come to God.
This mystery of God was revealed then after Jesus' glorification, beginning with Cornelius. But whenever God gave new light on an issue, the old didn't get wrong; what he had said before, was still and remained true; the new only clarified. Just as when the morning dawns and you see the shadow of a jug, and gradually the outline, then the shape, then the color, then the engravings, etc. But the early remains correct.
If, however, was announced by the slave new light, as a rule, the old light has been erring, wrong. Examples can designate any witness.
But God didn't and does not give a false light! Never! False light is never by the Spirit of God, and if a few declare themselves as an "organization led by the Spirit", then they should examine, by what a spirit they are headed. And when you realize such omissions and mistakes, they should not be excused with imperfection and fallibility, as long as they let handle themselves day for day as a perfect and infallible organization, even disciplining critics up to the Community withdrawal and all its sad consequences.
Let's return to the generation according to Matthew 24:34, the generation that will not pass away, till all these things will happen, the 1914 generation, which Jehovah's Witnesses have announced many decades, a doctrine, which was a duty of believing (there were still deposed from their office in 1990 Elders, whose doubts arose on that issue).
Some witnesses called the Generation of 1914 - in secret - the elastic generation.
In each issue of the magazine Awake in the opening credits was written the proposition that God had promised to bring all the announced events of Armageddon in the lifetime of the generation of 1914. First it was spoken about the people who still remember with understanding the events of 1914.
Then, when the years passed and time was running out - for a generation according to Psalm 90:10 was calculated on a maximum of 70 - 80 years - they thought that the generation were including those people who still remember the time of 1914, even without understanding.
But again, time was running out and they decided to see in the generation also these people who were born in 1914 and still existed as a generation, when all would have been happened. But 1994/95 that was nothing to write home about. They held the wolf by the ears, and they even had just put the crash of 1975 behind them.
They had to do something.
